Silica Gel is a man-made and a highly-porous form of natural mineral called silica. Despite its name, this gel is actually solid. Silica Gel (SG) is mainly used to remove moisture/humidity and is therefore known as a drying agent or “desiccant”.Silica gel was first manufactured in Baltimore in the USA and is the primary reason why our company is called Baltimore Innovations.

Silica Gel comes in two main forms, beaded (BS7554) or granular (BS2540).
Our granular silica gel is less popular than beaded silica gel , as it is more
expensive to produce. It can also be more dusty than its beaded equivalent.
It is for this reason that our SuperDryPak™ range of silica gel sachets use
beaded silica gel as standard.
Most silica gel used in the world today comes in its basic form, plain white.
However, there are some new forms of silica gel which, with a helpful colour
change, indicate when they have become saturated and need replacing.
These include:
Silica Gel is typically used to counter humidity problems or condensation
issues, particularly where manufacturers are seeking to protect moisture-
sensitive gases or moisture-sensitive solvents. Our desiccant silica gel is
widely used in the following industries:
