Desiccants are materials such as; silica gel, molecular sieves, activated alumina that adsorb moisture from the atmosphere and sustain a low relative humidity in a contained environment. Desiccants are commonly used to prevent moisture damaging sensitive products during storage and distribution.
Barrier foils are usually one layer of aluminium with 2 or 3 layers of polymer films all laminated together to provide an excellent barrier to moisture, gases, odours, temperatures and light for the protection of sensitive products, to maintain stability.
Fumed silica or pyrogenic silica is a high surface area silica with a very low bulk density which is used as a thickening, or anticaking agent. Typical applications include acting as a filler in silicone elastomers, and increasing viscosity in coatings, paints, printing inks, polyester resins and adhesives.
A matting agent is a micronized amorphous silica (SiO2) with high porosity, and high purity. Matting agents are used within many different coatings systems; from e.g. clear lacquers, industrial finishes, and decorative pigmented paints. As a paint film dries, the particles of matting agent create a micro-rough surface and the incident light is diffusely reflected from this micro-rough surface conveying the impression of mattness.
Vapour Corrosion Inhibiters or VCI’s provide protection against corrosion caused by moisture vapour. VCI’s can be applied to many substrates; each with unique characteristics to offer the best protection from corrosion.
HIC are designed to measure the relative humidity within an environment. The humidity level is indicated by a colour change of the dots from blue (dry) to pink (wet).
